Dear Doctor Xhovana Kodra !

Writing for sciences was a great course that taught me a lot about the importance of research when writing. It equip me with the necessary skills to effectively communicate scientific information. I learned how to write clear, concise, and well-structured scientific papers and articles. This was extremely valuable since I am pursuing a career in the sciences and I wanted to enhance my scientific writing abilities. It help me expand my knowledge and expertise in different areas, as well as challenged me to think outside to box to compose articulate, scientifically correct articles.

In what ways have my perceptions on what writing is and does evolved this semester?

Writing, to me, is like a great way to express myself, share ideas, and connect with others. It’s a creative tool that allows us to communicate our thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a meaningful way. Throughout this semester, I’ve seen how writing can evolve and grow and give you the outcomes that you expect. It’s not just about putting words on paper, but also about refining our skills, exploring different genres, and finding our voice. Writing has the power to transform us as individuals and expand our understanding of the world. I believe that scrolling though different genres this semester gave me a great concept of what you can achieve through it.

How do the audience and purpose impact the content of text?

The audience and purpose of a text have a big impact on its content. When we write, we consider who our audience is and what our purpose is. The audience is the group of people we’re addressing, whether it’s our friends, family, or a specific community. Knowing our audience helps us tailor our content to their interests, knowledge, and expectations. The purpose of the text is the reason we’re writing it. It could be to inform, persuade, entertain, or share our experiences. The purpose guides the tone, style, and overall message of the text. So, by considering the audience and purpose, we can create content that resonates with our readers and effectively communicates our intended message. It’s all about connecting with our audience and achieving our writing goals.

Was there a challenge in writing across genres and addressing specific audiences?

Writing across genres and addressing specific audiences can definitely be a challenge. Each genre has its own conventions, styles, and expectations. So, when we switched between genres, I needed to adapt my writing style, tone, and even the structure of our content. It requires lots of studying and a deep understanding of the genre we’re working with. Addressing specific audiences adds another layer of complexity. Different audiences have different backgrounds, interests, and knowledge levels. We need to consider their needs, preferences, and expectations to effectively write to them. It may require adjusting our language, providing relevant examples, or using specific terminology that resonates with the audience.

Discuss how, as a class, we explored and analyzed, through reading and writing, a variety of genres and rhetorical situations. How did we do this?

Throughout the semester, we completed three major projects with different goals and audiences in mind. We wrote a scientific narrative, an informative review, and a multi-modal genre increased awareness project that included a position paper and a community outreach. While conducting our research we had to analyze, select, and refer to them while writing, all while making sure we do not plagiarize. We dove into the world of different genres and how to adapt our writing to fit each one. By understanding the rhetorical situations, we were able to navigate and craft our writings with purpose and intention. It was all about finding the right approach for each genre and effectively communicating our message to the intended audience.

Review your letter of introduction from the first week of class and see if your responses from questions 7 & 9 have changed since taking the course. Explain.

When reviewing my responses from questions 7 & 9 of our letter of introductions, I can say that my responses have not changed. The questions were “What are two characteristics of an “articulate” speaker? Do you consider a person having these qualities intelligent?” and “Explain why Standard American English makes science writing more accessible to the general public.” For question 7 I said that someone who is articulate is a person that knows their audience very well and also has the ability to speak on their thoughts, emotions and body language I said I considered these speakers very intelligent and more efficient than someone that is “book smart”. I still agree with this opinion, but I would also like to add that articulate refers to a person that knows how to usa language and which jargon to use with their audience. For question 9, I wrote that Standard American English makes science writing more accessible to a certain extent. There are a lot of variables that make it less accessible to the public since it is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. I agree with this answer, but I would also like to add that English is also the language of science which makes sharing scientific discovery easier, therefore evolution.

I hope you enjoy reading though my answers as well as my website,
