Our second assignment was creating a PSA. For the PSA we had to do group work. A PSA stands for “Public Service Announcement.” It’s a message or advertisement created to raise awareness and promote public interest in a specific issue or cause. PSAs are typically used to educate the public about important topics like health and safety, social issues, or community initiatives. They aim to inform, inspire, and encourage people to take action or make positive changes. PSAs can be seen on various platforms, including television, radio, social media, and public spaces. PSAs follow certain genre conventions to effectively convey their message. They often have a clear and concise format, using attention-grabbing visuals, compelling storytelling, and persuasive language. PSAs typically begin with a hook or attention-grabbing opening to capture the audience’s interest. They then present the issue or cause, provide relevant information or statistics, and offer a call to action, encouraging viewers to take specific steps or make positive changes. PSAs often utilize emotional appeals, storytelling techniques, and relatable examples to connect with the audience on a personal level.
How did we reach our goals?
The way we did that was by making the slides engaging and well-designed. We made sure the information on each slide was visible and legible, in order for our audience to read all of the text on each slide before it moved on to the next one. We made sure to conduct deep research into our sustainability issue and provide data that supported our claims. We also tried to make sure our PSA effectively described the organization and what they do. We provided information on internships and employment opportunities. We included lots of engaging pictures and visuals in our slide as well as properly formed (APA) in-text citations and a reference page. We also made sure our PSA had bar codes for faster access to both internships and more PSA-s.
