On our first assignment we had the task to write a scientific narrative. Scientific narrative is a way of telling a story while incorporating scientific concepts and information. It’s a way to engage readers and make complex scientific ideas more accessible and interesting. It combines elements of storytelling with scientific facts to create a compelling narrative that educates and entertains. It’s a great way to communicate scientific ideas to a wider audience. Its genre conventions are determining audience and their ideology belief system then casting your characters based on your audience, determining the characters, defining the problem and plot the story. Then argue the moral. And finish up by providing evidence to your argument.
How I achieved them.
My exigence was that I wanted to tell the story that my father “Zefi” had told me all my life on my uncles life and his battle with ALS. The first thing I determined was my audience, keeping in mind that this is a scientific narrative, I wanted my story to be easy to read and entertaining since my audience was normal people who have loved ones that suffer from ALS. The purpose was to make my text very understandable, and I did that by avoiding scientific jargon. I casted my characters, which were Kola, Zefi, his siters, the doctors and the researchers. I defined my problem and plot the story by talking about how Kola started showing symptoms of ALS and then later he got diagnosed. I talked about how after reaching out to the research program Kola was able to be treated with Riluzole for ALS. Then I argued my moral about the positive impacts that this medication had on his mental health and how it prolonged his life.
